Glenmorangie Port/Sherry Finish Discontinued?

I visited their website and noticed that there is no mention of the wood finishes. My wife and I were out last Saturday and the bartender told me that the state stores (NH) would no longer be carrying it. That didn't mean much to me until I visited Glenmorangie's website yesterday. Please no.

Yep. Time to grab it whilst you can. There is the new La santa ( sherry finsh ) and The Quinta Rubin ( Port wood ). But the old finshes are going going and almost gone.

Aha!! Finally a question I can answer!

The old style bottles with port/sherry finishes have been discontinued

However they have been replaced with the new style bottles and different names

The port finsh is now called Quinta Ruban
The sherry finsh is now Lasanta

Why they wanted to change the names into something that is so difficult to understand I dont know. If they wanted something more exotic they should have used a name of a sherry or port (e.g. Olorosso)

I can report that the new ones are good. I liked them better than the old expressions. But they seem to come with a price hike as well. So, I am not sure the trade off is a good one at this point.

I could get the old ones for around $33-$40 USD.

The new ones seem to be in the fifties.

Of course a fancier name and label means it's worth more, that's just simple economics; or is it marketing, I get confused.

Nectar D'or is Fantastic. Worth every penny!
The Quinta Ruban is also grand and worth a try although quite a few people seem to prefer the old Port Wood!

The flavours of the two are different and livelier than before. They are also bottled at 46%abv and unchilfiltered as is the Nectar D'or which replaces the old Sauternes wood finish.

The 10 year old is fresher than before and has more obvious bourbony character.

Also the age statement on the new bottle/label is very small, I suspect that the whole line could go NAS for a while until stocks come back up.

Nectar D'or is Fantastic. Worth every penny!

There was just one bottle of Nectar D'or left on the shelf at the supermarket I work at (it was alone, it was staring at me, and I get 10% staff discount - what was I to do?). I can also vouch for it being a fantastic dram. Very sweet though, and I find that most of the Sauternes appears on the finish. Works for me though: the bottle's nearly empty, and I've not had it a week!

They have the discontinued bottles at a Trader Joe's near me for $34.99. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find them at all Trader Joe's in California.

I've only tried the Quinta Ruban of the new offering, but I thought it was a great whisky.

Any more comments on the new "Original" 10yo. I opened mine the other day and was very disappointed. No flowery nose, no sweet spice palate and a very dry finish. I'm going to get an old bottling and do a H-T-H, but I don't see any "artisan cask " improvement. All old bottlings are on sale here too, but the rest of the new line have not shown up yet. Still one of my favorite distilleries, I just need to flush out these changes to see what I like.

I didn't find the old 10 and the new 10 to be that much different (almost like the same beverage in the new bottle).

Ganga and I blew through an old bottle of the 10yo (in a couple of hours) the last time he was up here. And we had the new expression at a show during the same time. I found the new expression a little more drinkable. It could be because of the other beverages I had around it at the show. No real change in quality though.

Maybe try it again once it has been open for a little while. And I like your idea of a Head 2 Head...
