Laphroaig 30y original wooden box needed!

Postby Di Blasi » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:35 pm

Hey folks! I'm looking for an original wooden box for a Laphroaig 30y I've just bought without the box. The bottle I bought is a 750ml, and wonder if any Laphroaig 30y box will fit that or if the 700ml bottle is too small? The most recently released bottling in the US seems to have been released "sans box for the last few months," and the one available in Europe I've found is also a 750ml, odd. I'm willing to either pay a fair price for the box or trade for some whisky samples. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Me too. I heard that most of the Laphroaig 30 shipped to the US over the last few years has been without a box.

Keeping the prices low to pass the savings on to you...

Most of the time I like to look at a bottle rather than a box anyway... Unless it is really cool like the Bowmore Sea Dragon, or the Kelt Petra Cognac box.

Cheers,

Yes, great to get a good deal, but I'd really like the box to go with it. If one day I do decide to sell the bottle, it may take some convincing of the buyer that 10 years ago, (that's today now), the later 30y olds were sold without boxes. Anyway, I've written to the distillery regarding the box and see if they have one to sell.

I bought 2 30 yr olds which also came without boxes and are 750ml - the back label suggests they were originally imported into the US in MI (Michigan?). As it is common knowledge that the US bottlings (or at least the latest ones) came without a box I can't imagine that a buyer could not get this verified - especially if they ask the forums.

Plus these bottles were cheaper to buy than those in a box so even if they realise a slightly lower price then you would probably realise the same gain - at least that is what I am hoping!

The bottle I bought (750ml in Europe) came with a box. But I only drink the liquid, not the wood :P
So, could you pick it up in Switzerland?

Okay just to let you know ... I have a Lap 30yo 700ml with box.

The 700ml bottle is 11 5/8ths inches high and the Inside of th box is exactly 12 inches to accommodate the stays.

Bottle width is circe 2 7/8ths

Box Width is 3 3/8ths

So if you bottle corresponds exactly then a 700ml box may do you.

Try ebay there is one currently on the UK site with abottle full of barley

I must've clicked the email alerts off for responses to posts, cause I didn't realize this thread was getting attention. I'd like to think the 700ml and 750ml bottle would be using the same wooden box, but I'm not sure, and the bottle is in California so I can't measure it. Any possibility someone out there has one of the 750ml bottle and can measure the dimensions? Unfortunately I don't see myself in Switzerland anytime soon. I'd love to visit though. Any way I could convince you to send it up here for an exchange with some whisky samples tungsten??

My Laphroaig 30yo 750ml (as well as all Laphroaig standard bottlings), is 11 3/4 inches tall including cork and 2 7/8 inches wide. Looks like they are the same width and just a little taller, but should still fit the box. I've seen the box in the U.S., but now all are without. I could use one too if anyone else has one. I like to display the bottle in front of the box/tube.

My two, from one of the most reputable UK resellers, were sans box :(

I don't think it's you Jonathan - my alerts are still on in the Control Panel but I'm not getting alerts. I think the BBS software is misbehaving

Okay, thanks for letting me know Collector57 about the alerts. Mine shows them all, but then just above it says "You are not subscribed to any forums." And just below that it says, "Watched topics." :insane:  :insane:

Yup, me too, thankfully slowly, and not a full bombardment, blitzkrieg as I expected.
