Banff Old Malt Cask 32 year old

Postby vengey » Sat Jun 14, 2008 10:35 pm

Hello All,

Has anyone ever tried Banff Old Malt Cask 32 year old? I had never heard of it before but came across it while browsing online. Seems the distillery was closed in 83.

It was looking like a good impulse buy but I would appreciate any comments.

I've had it, it's a stunner, very fruity. I also have another two bottles!

Well hmmm..

It's very nice and probably one of the best I've had, but I'm asking myself why. It's quite a confusing malt actually. Not sure what to think of it at the moment.

Cool!

I picked one of these up recently (well, actually my wife did as a gift) based on Lawrence's raving about it, but I haven't opened it yet. Too many open bottles still!

Let me know what you think - cheers!

Could you give more details about the bottle. Several old Banff were bottled by Douglas Laing.
So far, the Banff of that age that I tried were very nice and sweet.

Hi,

Sure. It is indeed by Douglas Laing. Distilled in 1974, bottled in April 2007. It says "This bottle is one of 272 bottles". No chill filtration, no colouring, bottled at natural cask strength. It then says "A bottling from one refill Hogshead DL REF: 3521

Alc percentage says 47.8% on the bottle.

It is sweet to an extent, but not overly so. To be honest, it needs a good session to get a feel for it. It's hard to give a good session to such a strong Whisky on a week day. I just had a little taste after lunch and it tastes even better than lastnight.

I think I'm going to enjoy this one.
