Which to buy: Dalmore 30 or Benriach 28?

Related whiskies : BenRiach 30 Years Old , The Dalmore 30 Years Old, Gonzalez Bypass

I'd like your advice on this: which whisky should I buy?
The choice is:
- The Dalmore 1973 30y OB 42% or
- Benriach 1976 28y OB 58.7%
(the price for the Benriach is about 1.4 times as high as the Dalmore)

Please discuss if you know these whiskies or similar bottles.

Do you have more details on both bottles? Is the Dalmore the Gonzales Byass? Are either peated? Are they bourbon/sherry matured? Is either finished?

I've had the Gonzales Byass and must say I really enjoyed it. However, I would lean towards an unpeated, bourbon Benriach even at 50% premium.

It's the Gonzalez Byass Sherry Cask Finish Dalmore and a Limited Ed Peated version of the Benriach.

I'd go for the BenRiach. From what I tasted in the BenRiach warehouse (on my two visits), they have some fab casks lying about - the old peated ones tend to be great.

A quick check over at MaltManiacs and their scores for these whiskies:
Dalmore: 87 (points range from 81 to 93 - tasted by 7 Maniacs)
BenRiach: 89 (points range from 86 to 91 - tasted by 2 Maniacs)

I haven't been as thrilled with the Benriach peated whiskies as most have. The exception was a younger, peated Signatory bottling. I'd probably still drift towards the Benriach as the Dalmore will likely be available to you for quite a bit longer.

As a BenRiach collector I have to say go for the BenRiach!

I have tried 2 different 1975, 29 and 30 year old, and I have them on 88 and 91 points.

As I like BenRiach very much, I would choose for the BenRiach.
BenRiach is top. I have a friend, who has been there(dist.) several times and has taken back to Holland (and to me

) some BenRiach's.

Although....Dalmore

Hmm, I see more votes for Dalmore, but more posts for Benriach. Tell me more, especially why you prefer the one or the other.
The future availability seems a good reason to buy the Benriach, I agree with you here.
