I haven't tried the 1841 yet, although I did pick up a bottle of the 1861 Replica a while back. I liked the sound of the tasting notes on it, but have yet to open it. I'd planned on waiting until my 50th birthday, but that's still a few years off, so I'll need to find a nice excuse to crack it open.
I would say, however, that if you like Macallans to go ahead and buy it. Provenance and taste aside, it's a great looking bottle to have in your cabinet. Based on a fake, not authentic - I don't care, so long as it's good whisky - which, according to MJ, it is. . .
My vote - go for it.

PS - I paid US$220 for my 1861, so your 1841 doesn't sound that bad at all by comparison. . .
