Does anyone know this Bruichladdich 15-year-old?

Hi!

I just bought this whisky in an small shop in Italy. They had several whiskies I have never seen before, including this bottle.



Does anyone know this whisky? Have anyone tasted it? I paid 60 euros for it. Have I been ripped off?

Wow that must have been gathering dust on the shelf for a while!

Don't recognise the bottle, but assuming it's not a reproduction of the style that looks like something that was bottled in the late 1980's / early 1990's before they introduced the compass motif.

Is there anything on the bottle to indicate it's vintage?

Taste wise, there was a reason why the original distillery was mothballed, so I doubt the contents will be up there with the much acclaimed current 15YO. But still very drinkable, but without any sparkle. This assumes it's been stored well and not on display in blazing sun for years!

As to 60 euros - seems a very keen price. Pre-mothballing Bruicchladdich seem to sell at auction for 80 euros plus. Current 15YO (probably a nicer drink) would cost £40. Would be interesting as an exercise comparing old with new!

However I'd get back to the shop pronto, there may be some hidden whisky gold in amoungst all those dusty bottles!

I have seen that before and I thought I may have it my collection, but I don't.
It is one of the older 'laddies, pre-Jim & Duncan.
I guess the value is around €50-€90.

I had an identical one in my collection but of a 21yr, i wrote into whiskymag collectors corner in the mag, the response was late 60, early 70's, i sold it for £110. I expect the 15 possibly £80.

I have a 10y labeled the same, and I believe it's from the early 80's. I paid 75€ in June of 2005, so you definitely got a deal kljostad! Where in Italy did you find it? I have also found the compass labels, the ones just after this bottling, on the shelves in Bologna.
