Lagavulin 21 Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask Finish?

Postby Wave » Sun Aug 17, 2008 9:17 pm

I just spotted this at Binny's. http://www.binnys.com/search/add2cart.c ... 63138&pt=2 I'm quite familiar with the Laga 21 as I have a couple of bottles of it myself but I didn't know it was a Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask Finish nor do my bottle labels mention anything about what it was finished in, plus the Proof stated is 110 (Laga 21's I have are 113 proof).
Is this something new?

Cheers!

I can´t tell for sure, but I guess it´s a mistake, a mixture of Laga21 and Laga16 DE, even in google I couldn´t find more.
If your interested think about asking the retailer or if you can afford it, buy a bottle and look what you will get. If it´s nuts, you can send it back .....

It's a bit of a coincidence that they have stated a PX finish which is the DE finish. I think Peat-chaser is right, it has to be a mix up.

Ok, I just called Brett at Binny's (actually it was Joe) and asked about it. He just happened to have a bottle of it handy, it is thee Lagavulin 21 that came out late last summer, but I think they were under the impression that it was from a PX cask (thus PX finish  ). I know the Laga 21 was aged in 1st filled sherry casks but I don't remember ever reading about what type of sherry casks were used (PX, Oloroso or whatever). Whichever it's still nice to find a new source of the venerable Lagavulin 21 and still at a decent price, at least for us Yanks anyway

Cheers!

That confirms is then. Don't know whether I would get one though.

Probably not here either, as a 2-bottle buyer (1 to drink and 1 to save for later) I already have my allotment, but it's still tempting. Great whisky!!
