Johnnie Walker Red Label

Would old bottles of Johnnie Walker Red label be worth keeping or should I just open and enjoy them ? I found a number of old bottles when clearing a relatives house.
It looks as though they date from the late sixties early seventies so I don't expect they will be valuable. I also have bottles of White Horse and Black & White from the same era.

Could I still drink them after all this time ?

Yep,you can still drink them and i suggest you would,sorry but these bottles won`t make you rich,perhaps over 100 years?

I'm a whisky collector and I know that there a number of JW collectors out here.

Blended whiskies never increase in value to the same extent as single malts, even though prime labels such as JW are collectible.

I also believe that most JW collectors would already have these anyway.


Yes, they are very drinkable still. In fact, buy a new one from today's offerings and compare them with a head to head tasting.
You may be quite surprised at the differences.

I'm curious about the handwritten dates. Does anyone know who might have done this and when? I ask because I stayed with a firend once who had discovered an old half bottle of White Horse that had a handwritten date of 1960 on it - presumably the year of purchase. Is this something people did in those days?

If you're not a big fan of Johnny Red I wouldn't open them, they're not going to have improved so you may as well try to sell them on.
If you are a fan then I agree with Malt-Teaser - this is a great oportunity to discover and compare to todays bottlings.
