Malt whisky yearbook 2009

Received a copy today. Hats off to Mr Ronde, he's done it again. A quality publication at a real bargain price. No controversial personal opinions to endure and a great guest contribution feature. The international malts chapter is really intriguing. Can anybody extrapolate the figures to see when the US will have more malt distilleries than Scotland? Tasmania?

Was this an advance sample or is it on general release?

This is a book I always make a point of purchasing each year and I probably look forward to it more than Jim Murray's Whisky Bible. I still purchase both, the Whisky Bible for the tasting notes and the Whisky Yearbook for the more indepth coverage of the distilleries etc. Saying that I'm sure I read somewhere that they were going to include some tasting notes this year and I just hope this won't be at the expense of the previously successful format of the book.

I expect this was sent slightly ahead of general release but I believe it will be free flow very if not already.

I received my copy about 1 week ago and managed to go through by Sunday (a 10 h train journey is perfect for reading). An excellent version again, definitely more interesting than the whisky bible 2009 to my opinion. I hope to post a review by the end of the week.
In a few words: Excellent value and interesting values. The big strength of this book is that even if you have read the 2008 version, you still enjoy reading again the distillery section of the version 2009 from A to T..

Ingvar told me that if I ordered this on Monday I'd have it on Thursday. I was sceptical but duly placed an online order. I got home tonight to find the book waiting for me. Delivered from Sweden in just four days. Super brilliant service (WM could learn a lot).

I've only spent ten minutes flicking through the Yearbook, but am already very, very impressed. It's absolutely smack-bang up-to-date. For example, bottle pics and narrative about "Ardbeg Blasda" and "PC7". Also, the content's pretty much all new each year (apart obviously from the distillery history bits).

A world apart from Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, which is often 'behind the pace' by publication and with 80% of the narrative just being re-prints from previous years.

The Yearbook is the best whisky book. Period. And this year with tasting notes as well!

I picked up the 2009 the other day at a local shop in Santa Rosa, CA... $20

High quality just as I was expecting after having the 2008 version...

Will have to spend some time to catch up on beverage reading... maybe when I am having the beverage I am reading...
