I am in full agreement. I find that with most of the other DEs (with the exception of the Caol Ila), that the sherry (or other wine cask) influence overpowers the distillery characteristics. However, I find that the Lagavulin, likely due to the heavy PPM, is able to retain its original flavor, and adds a nice initial wave of sweetness before the peat takes over.
