Glen Garioch, Urban Bourbon Trail, France Focus.

Published April 2014.

Auchentoshan 1975
Single Malt - Scotland - 45.60%
8 A beautiful and delicate aperitif. Take your time with this - it deserves it.

Bushmills Irish Honey
Liqueur - Republic of Ireland - 35.00%
7 There was too much of the confectionary sweetness for my taste, but I can see that you would like this as an alternative to a liqueur.

Cardhu Amber Rock
Single Malt - Scotland - 40.00%
7 I found there was not enough connection between the nose and the taste. It loses its way with water - better neat.

Dark Horse Alberta Premium
Blended - Canada - 45.00%
8 Deliciously sweet, bagfuls of pudding.

Dark Horse Renunion Rye
Rye - U.S.A. - 44.50%
8 I found this slightly strange but I like it.

Dark Horse Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon - U.S.A. - 44.50%
7 I could see this in a cocktail to counter the sharpness with some sweetness.

Edradour 2006 Oloroso Sherry Cask
Single Malt - Scotland - 59.20%
8 This begs for water, so add carefully. A wonderful nose.

Elements of Islay BW3
Single Malt - Scotland - 51.60%
8 Cracking. Takes you to Islay in a heartbeat.

Forty Creek Heart Of Gold
Blended - Canada - 43.00%
8 I loved this for the subtle and delicious flavours. Masterly

Kilchoman Bourbon Cask 2008
Single Malt - Scotland - 61.00%
8 The distillery character shouts from the rooftops - I spotted this a mile off.

Koval Four Grain
Grain - U.S.A. - 47.10%
7 Indulgent and slightly dangerous - delicious.

Master of Malt Ben Nevis 16 Years Old
Single Malt - Scotland - 57.40%
8 This was a little edgy at first, but give it time and it softens up.

Signatory Clynelish 1995, 17 Years Old
Single Malt - Scotland - 56.20%
8 A lovely balance of warmth and perfume, it feels older than its age.

Stranahan's “Snowflake” Mt. Silverheels
Non Bourbon - U.S.A. - 47.00%
8 The initial nose is off putting but stick with it.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company Aultmore Batch 3
Single Malt - Scotland - 53.20%
8 I was taken with how light this was, a lovely example.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company Miltonduff
Single Malt - Scotland - 51.40%
8 Sophisticated and beautifully balanced. Be careful adding water.

The Famous Grouse 16 Years Old
Blended - Scotland - 40.00%
8 Deceptively simple. Very easy drinking whisky

The Whisky Exchange Linkwood 16 Years Old Sherry Cask Retro Label
Single Malt - Scotland - 48.10%
9 This is a wonderful bottling. It has the suave and brooding character of Mr Fox in Jemima Puddleduck.

WhistlePig The Boss Hog
Rye - U.S.A. - 63.00%
7 I like the nose but the palate was too extreme.
