It's Awards Time

Our time to present

At this time of year we at Whisky Magazine are under immense pressure, as not only is this the bumper awards issue but we are also building up to the Whiskies & Spirits Conference and Whisky Live London.

I had the privilege this year of taking part in the final round of the 2015 World Whiskies Awards which was held in the salubrious surroundings of the Honourable Artillery Company. With about 30 judges we were split into three tables and spent most of the day tasting over 100 whiskies. My tasting skills were seriously enhanced by talking to and watching other judges at my table.

I had the opportunity to meet many of the judges including Chris Goodrum who we have recently appointed as our Head taster for the tastings section of the magazine. We have decided that Chris will be the one constant taster for the year. He started working for the magazine in 2007 when he was a judge for the Independent Bottlers Challenge which subsequently led to him being asked to judge the World Whiskies Awards in 2012, as well as the World Drinks Awards. He also has a weekly show on YouTube called the Good Dram Show. We look forward to working with Chris during 2015.

Once the judging had been completed Rebecca Sterritt, our Tastings editor, and the editorial panel had the uneviable task of calculating all the award winners.
