Batch 206 Old Log Cabin
Bourbon - U.S.A. - 43.00%
8 A lovely rye-heavy Bourbon with the right amount of alcohol to intensify the spices.
Berrys' Single Malt Scotch Whisky 2000, Glengoyne, Cask #1074
Single Malt - Scotland - 46.00%
8 A lovely whisky. A perfect marriage of American and sherry oak aged spirit.
Box Single Malt Whisky The 2nd Step Collection 01
Single Malt - Sweden - 51.10%
9 A truly world class whisky.
Compass Box The Circus
Blended - Scotland - 49.00%
8 A heavily sherried, high malt content blend with some maturity.
Craigellachie 19 Years Old
Single Malt - Scotland - 46.00%
8 It has charm and thankfully enough sweet honey and creamy oak
to balance its industrial character.
Grindlay's Single Cask Release Glentauchers 1996
Single Malt - Scotland - 54.50%
9 Now that's how I like my Speys. Beautifully complex and layered.
Octomore 07.4 Virgin Oak
Single Malt - Scotland - 61.20%
8 Water makes it sweeter and smokier, but just like the George T Stagg, it has to be experienced as nature intended – neat!
Wemyss Malts Single Cask Release The Admiral's Beacon
Single Malt - Scotland - 46.00%
9 Absolutely gorgeous and probably quite expensive!
A. D. Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon
Bourbon - U.S.A. - 47.50%
7 Although I loved its intensity, it could have done with some balancing sweetness.
anCnoc Vintage 2001
Single Malt - Scotland - 46.00%
7 As readers will know, this is not a style of whisky that I warm to.
J.H. Rare Selection Dark Rye Malt Eisweinfass GV
Rye - Austria - 46.00%
7 Young and entertaining but it could have done with more oak character to round off the edges.
Jameson
Limited Edition St. Patrick's Day
Blended - Republic of Ireland - 40.00%
8 A pleasant and straightforward blend.
Langatun Swiss Single Malt Whisky Old Deer
Single Malt - Switzerland - 40.00%
8 Impressive and unlike a number of European whiskies it seems to have spent a bit of time in oak!
Prometheus 27 Years Old Cache 2
Single Malt - Scotland - 47.00%
8 Bitter at the end, but this certainly has its merits.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company North British Batch 2
Single Grain - Scotland - 49.30%
8 A lovely, fresh, young grain. Avoid water – the alcohol gives it intensity.
The Arran Malt 18 Years Old
Single Malt - Scotland - 46.00%
7 It's a pity that the palate didn't display the balance of the nose. Good, clean sherry though.
The Epicurean Small Batch Release
Blended Malt - Scotland - 46.20%
7 A lovely, weighty Lowland malt, which reminds me of Littlemill.
The Quiet Man “An Fear Ciuin” Traditional Irish Whiskey
Blended - Northern Ireland - 40.00%
8 A delightful blend. The grain feels like it has some age and makes up for the lessened malt character on the palate.
