The Final Countdown

The Battle of the Blends goes to the vote

The blends are now complete, the whiskies have been married and now for the judging. In conjunction with Master of Malt, we will be sending out the drams to over 300 independent judges including many readers of this magazine as well as those involved in the whisky industry. All the voting will be done online and this year we are hoping for entries from around the world. The winner will be announced at Whisky Live London in March 2017.

Ok, so that's it for another year… or perhaps for me… forever! Could this be my last foray into blending? I sincerely hope not, but as was the case last time around, my fate as a future on-the-hoof blender is now completely in your hands. Should you choose to vote for my blend and I triumph again, I would be delighted to carry forth my title into a another year!

Needless to say, I am very happy with the way that my blend turned out: the port influence on the cask gave an initial sweet richness and the balance between smooth, silky Speyside malts, some delicate Highlands, both Japanese and Irish grain whiskeys and then a tiny sprinkling of Islay magic has given the blend some real complexity. In fact, I think it could be even better than last year's winning blend!
