A growing church

We report from Holland's excellent Whisky Live event.

The International Whisky Festival / Whisky Live Leiden which was held for the ninth time in Holland and for the fifth successive time in the unique surroundings of the Pieterskerk in the heart of Leiden, the oldest university town of Holland, was another great success. For the third year in a row the event was sold out well in advance of doors opening!

This year saw more exhibitors than ever before with 47 stands including more than 30 whisky exhibitors. Standholders such as Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Suntory and Zuidam distilleerderij filled the impressive venue offering a wide display of whiskies from across the globe for visitors to enjoy; and, in numbers, enjoy they did! More visitors than ever attended the show across five sessions – a staggering 5,000 festival goers enjoyed whisky from all over the lowlands and beyond.More visitors from foreign countries attended this year and all 28 masterclasses were fully booked, educating hundreds of whisky devotees.

Live music and demonstrations added to the already fantastic atmosphere that the revellers and venue never fail to create. The next Whisky Festival in Leiden will take place across the 13th, 14th and 15th November 2009. Same town, same church, and after the success of this year's extended show, the number of sessions will again be five.Make a note in your diary if you don't want to miss it as tickets are already selling fast in the wake of another monumentally successful festival.
