The Spey way My issue of Whisky Magazine 87 May/June 2010 arrived in my post this morning.
I was in chuffed to see the article about walking the Spey Way. I wrote about my walking down the Spey starting way back in 1992.
Since then I have walked, with my wife, various bits of the Spey and other parts of Scotland where there are distilleries. Across Islay and Jura. All around Mull, and bits of Skye. We also walked down the Avon from Tomintoul to the Spey, along the Spey and then up the Fiddich to Dufftown.
Obviously calling at many distilleries en route and enjoying some great hosteleries.
Good way to sink a dram or two then walk, relatively safely, away from traffic!
Dave Hughes Via email Still issues Readers of Tom Morton's article in issue 85 (Gone to pot) may be left with the impression that under the Scotch Whisky Regulations, ‘Lomond stills', such as those depicted in the article, cannot be used to distil Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
That is incorrect.
The Association has made it clear, including to Loch Lomond Distillery, that ‘Lomond stills' are pot stills. They have been used for the batch distillation of Single Malt Scotch Whisky for decades and may continue to be used to distil Single Malt Scotch Whisky in the future.
On the other hand, the Regulations also confirm that continuous ‘Coffey' or ‘Patent' stills cannot be used to produce malt Scotch Whisky. Scotch Whisky distilled in continuous stills is grain Scotch Whisky, whatever the constituents of th...
