Classic drink for classic track

Woodford Reserve bourbon has become the toast of the famous Churchill Downs horse racing track. A title bestowed on only a handful of brands, being an ‘official’ beverage or drink of the Kentucky Derby is an honour.
For the eighth year in a row, Woodford Reserve Bourbon is the ‘Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.’

In keeping with the tradition of a limited edition bottle, a painting by Louisville-based artist Kathy Sullivan graces the 2006 Woodford Reserve Bourbon Derby bottle.

To celebrate the Derby, Woodford Reserve challenged Kevin Armstrong, the world famous bartender from the Milk and Honey club to give the classic ‘Mint Julep’ a shake up and create a delicious new variant.

Kevin’s new cocktail aptly named the ‘English Cherry Julep’ has the following ingredients:

60ml Woodford Reserve
5-10ml sugar syrup
10-15ml Luxardo Maraschino
Four fresh tender mint sprigs
Three English Cherries

To make your own...
At the base of the glass muddle the cherries then add all the ingredients including the mint sprigs, then add a little bit of crushed ice and mix until cold. Add more ice to top up drink and garnish with one mint sprig and one English cherry with a stem on. Finally powder the top of the drink
with sugar.
