Icy reaction to casino policy

An Australian casino caused a fuss recently when bar staff insisted on adding ice to a customer’s glass of whisky.

Alison Black, a Glaswegian living in Melbourne, described what happened at Lasseters Casino in Alice Springs: “I love my whisky and particularly like single malts. I was delighted when I saw that the casino had stocks of Glenfiddich.

“My friend and I ordered one each but I was shocked when the young barman went to put ice in them. He insisted it was policy to only serve whisky with three lumps of ice.

“They said it was to stop customers drinking it as a shot, like tequila.

“But I’ve never seen anyone lining up shots of whisky. It’s to be sipped and savoured.”

A spokesman for the casino commented: “This is not company policy. The person who served her has been reprimanded for their stupidity.”
