- Nose
- Very delicate. Fleeting fragrance of peat smoke. Hints of sweet orange, apricot, toasted nuts.
- Palate
- Light, but with a good malt background. Developing creamy butterscotch flavours, a hint of vanilla. Moderating the sweetness, a little lemon zest.
- Finish
- Interplay of fruitiness and older oak.
- Comment
- My personal taste is more robust, but I am in awe of the precision and refinement of the older Ballantine's.

- Nose
- Clean, medium-bodied and quite citric. Water brings out orange and a lovely smoky note which builds as the whisky develops but never overpowers.
- Palate
- Very sweet. A soft gentle grain with pops of spice, honey, nougat and smoke weaving in and out.
- Finish
- Rich and soft.
- Comment
- This has great balance and the light smoke gives it extra interest.
