Nose
Very delicate. Fleeting fragrance of peat smoke. Hints of sweet orange, apricot, toasted nuts.
Palate
Light, but with a good malt background. Developing creamy butterscotch flavours, a hint of vanilla. Moderating the sweetness, a little lemon zest.
Finish
Interplay of fruitiness and older oak.
Comment
My personal taste is more robust, but I am in awe of the precision and refinement of the older Ballantine’s.

Nose
Clean, medium-bodied and quite citric. Water brings out orange and a lovely smoky note which builds as the whisky develops but never overpowers.
Palate
Very sweet. A soft gentle grain with pops of spice, honey, nougat and smoke weaving in and out.
Finish
Rich and soft.
Comment
This has great balance and the light smoke gives it extra interest.
