- Nose
- Intense, ozone-like and hot (though not unpleasantly so). Sashimi, yuzu and
samphire. Freshens further with water where a grassiness emerges along
with peat smoke.
- Palate
- Immediate smoke. Oily with the fullest expression of the intensity seen on the nose. Crab shells, citrus zest, wasabi, brine. Bracing and salty with light pine.
- Finish
- Embers.
- Comment
- I prefer this neat, but whatever your preference, this is an exceptional
Caol Ila.

- Nose
- Light, earthy, grassy. Lemon grass, wet leaves. Dried apples. A hint of fennel. Restrained at first then releasing a fragrant bouquet of dried flowers and fruit. With water, a touch of creosote.
- Palate
- Smooth, velvety. Quite thick and oily on the tongue. Sherbety. Sweet
maltiness. A hint of smoke.
- Finish
- Dry, spicy, fizzy. Aniseed losange.
- Comment
- An interesting multilayered dram. The peat character does not show much
but “seasons” the aromatic profile.
