- Nose
- Clearly old. Reduced into thick toffee, heathery smoke then stewing quince, rum-soaked sultana and mixed peels. Then it starts to lighten, becoming sumptuously elegant.
- Palate
- Gentle, sweet start with good layered complexity. Barley sugar, oak, peat,
tinned apricot this time.
- Finish
- The fruit rises gently once more. Long and lightly smoky.
- Comment
- Superb balance. Classic distillery character retained after four decades
- no mean achievement.

- Nose
- Intense, complex, elegant. Damp warehouse; Lots of “antique” fragrances, mixing indoors and outdoors. Pot-pourri, old oak floor. On time, briny scents emerge. Smoked fish, boat tar but also passion fruit and crab apple.
- Palate
- Rich, all flavours so well melted. Exotic fruit. A seaweedy note..
- Finish
- Dry, gently spicy, with a hint of tar and marzipan.
- Comment
- A superb dram but given the price...
