Nose
Fragrant. Sea air. Very lightly briney. Palate
Firm. Hint of iron. Oaky. Oily. Developing almondy, nutty maltiness. Deft balance of flavours. Finish
Edible seaweed. More salt. Comment
Because it is less aggressive than some of its neighbours, Bunnahabhain is often regarded as not being a proper Islay malt. This proves it can be.
Jim Murray
Nose
Subtle sherry aroma balanced by a fresh salty breeze. Mildly bourboned. Palate
Marginally fatter than the average Bunna, a quick rush of oak countered by malt and sherry. Finish
Remains oaky and oily with some cocoa notes popping through. Comment
Another example of an aged malt that, for all its obvious charm and class, has been just a tad too much oak. A delicious experience, nonetheless.
