Nose
Slightly smoky fruitiness (cherries?). Palate
Lightly syrupy. Very fruity and winey. A firm embrace of big flavours. Quite sweet. Finish
Fruity, perfumy, almost jammy. Lingering. Comment
The port threatens to dominate the malt. I can’t recall tasting such a powerful wood finish. Could seduce people who believe they don’t like whisky. For that purpose, I would use this rather than a lighter, blander, malt.
Dave Broom
Nose
Nutty malt with a red jelly centre. Cakey and mellow. Palate
Very sweet and rounded. Redcurrants and peaches with nuts sprinkled on top. Finish
Malty. Soft. Comment
Has retained the distillery character but given it a sweeter lift.
