Nose
High cask influence: walnut whip, caramelised fruit sugars, ginger buns woodsmoke. Deep, resinous with clove and a little cardamom. Palate
Immediate tannic grip with quite substantial spirit cutting through the oak: fungal, dark chocolate, chestnut purée. Not too tannic. Finish
Ripe, old, cassis. Comment
A lot of cask here but strangely subtle for such a heavy beast.
Arthur Motley
Nose
Earthy mossiness with a fruit; oranges or raisins. Licqourice bark and furniture polish. Pine and some mustiness. Palate
Viscous then drying. Some cognac-like fruitiness and aniseed. Finish
Tannins by the ton. Tree bark. Comment
Too woody for me, but some people will adore its obvious ‘old-ness’.
