Gavin Smith
Nose
Scented, violets and plums. Soft and gentle.
Palate
Heather and toffee, oaky notes well held in the background by a complex floral and honey combination.
Finish
The honey lingers well, and there are a few negative signs of age from the wood.
Comment
Some Glen Garioch are sometimes dismissed on account of their 'tartan and stag' packaging, but this is a serious whisky and deserves to be treated as such.

Nose
Exotic. Olde English marmalade, allspice, fresh grated nutmeg (spiced rum?). With water there's macaroon bars and after-dinner mints.
Palate
Perfumed attack, then the aromatics become slightly artificial and essence like. Mint and lavender again. Essential oil.
Finish
Perfumed. Some smoke.
Comment
A great nose, but let down on the palate.
