Nose
Full-on whisky rancio. Shoe polish and strangely candy. Hint of mincemeat which then shifts to molasses and a hint of sarsaparilla and dried damask roses. Hugely complex and waxy.
Palate
The palate, unsurprisingly at this age, is tannic–that sarsaparilla edge returns. Quite dense and maybe just too much oak. Palate coating with a nutty undertow. Dry but has class.
Finish
Fades into ash.
Comment
Fantastic nose, but loses it on the palate.

Nose
Deep, intense, elegant. Antique shop, old books. Polished oak floor.
Palate
Smooth and gently flowing. Oak prevails but in a very tamed way. Supple tannins. Dark chocolate.
Finish
Slightly bitter, spicy. Ginger and a touch of tabasco.
Comment
An old whisky which has taken the best of the wood during its long maturation. The perfect after-dinner dram, sipping a full-bodied mocha coffee from Ethiopia. Try with just a drop of water, not more.
