Nose
Toasty. Biscuity. Petits fours. Palate
Vanilla flan. Sweet Cuban coffee. Finish
Juicy. A hint of dried tropical fruits. Comment
The less pronounced rum character of the two Caribbean accented whiskies in this tasting. When you cook, do you want the herbs and spices to announce themselves individually, or to be part of the blend of flavours? David Stewart seems usually to opt for the latter, and does so with great deftness and sophistication.
Dave Broom
Nose
Rich and rounded with clean malty notes. Chocolate, caramelised banana, some citric notes, orange pulp, toffee and spice. Palate
The chocolate comes back giving a sweet, balanced dram. Good mature malt character. Finish
Chocolate, coffee and orange peel. Comment
Good balance with the rum at no point overwhelming the whisky. American readers will have to smuggle it into the country along with their Cohibas.
