- Nose
- Woody, musty. Sherry. Walnut oil. Cappuccino then wet ground coffee. More sherry. Liquorice lozenges. Hint of praline.
- Palate
- Sweet and sour. Coffee toffee. Gripping.
- Finish
- Lingering, spicy and dry. Liquorice.
- Comment
- Sherry wood is undoubtedly invasive but yet, here's a complex one. To be softened by chocolate pralines or almond biscuits.
90
- Nose
- Complex. Starts with bung cloth and concentrated fruits; then cereal, a hint of smoke, and floral notes (Cognac) citrus, pine wood, light chocolate, freshly charred wood, orange zest.
- Palate
- Intense. The oak has grip but sufficient caramelised flavours to carry.
- Finish
- Long, tingling, elegant.
- Comment
- A classic complex mature whisky where the wood has not taken over.
