Dave Broom
Nose
Whisky rancio to the fore: mints, furniture polish, and a powdery fragrance and behind some sooty smoke. Ethereal. Needs time to open.
Palate
Mature, but has intensity, a lively prickle. Slightly feral, nutty, and elegant. Do not water.
Finish
Short and ever so slightly smoky.
Comment
1948? Amazing. Has retained a refined almost raffish air and though frail is not overwooded.

Nose
Musty boxes, and a luxurious and rich explosion of fruits. Undercurrents of varnish and a chestnut nuttiness too.
Palate
Tinned peaches, apricots and dark chocolate. This complexity is spanked into touch with a lot of wood character, and a little creosote.
Finish
Bitter woodiness and star anise spice.
Comment
A little too drying and old on the palate for me, but that bouquet was absolutely stunning.
