Dave Broom

Nose
Woodier, more firm and slightly vinous. The black fruits are now dried, less definition on the nose.
Palate
The smoke seems to have been shunted forward. A good mix of rich spirit, dried fruit.
Finish
Thick and only lightly smoked. Generous and sweet.
Comment
For me the complexities have been diminished rather than enhanced. It's a good drink and may be more acceptable for newbies but since when did all whisky have to be acceptable to everyone?

Rob Allanson

Nose
Much darker and secretive than before. Its layers are well hidden. The finish seems to have dominance, but the smoke fights through although it is tempered.
Palate
The smoke hits you first, before waves of dark treacle come in. Spices lurk as well. Very rich.
Finish
Big, sweet and comforting.
Comment
A lush, decadent addition to the Lagavulin range. One for the dark winter days.
