Gavin Smith
Nose
Fresh, mild antiseptic, subtle peat smoke.
Palate
Complex. Smoked haddock, cut plug tobacco, burnt newspapers, but buttery, sweeter cooked fruit notes predominate.
Finish
Chewy toffee drying out to oak.
Comment
A fine robust dram with lots happening. Laphroaig at its best.

Nose
Sweet. Tarry with stewing citrus fruits (like making marmalade). Bere meal, varnish and tar. Like fence posts in the sun/caulked wood.
Palate
Big blast of smoke, then oak, malt, with sweetness and orangey fruit. The phenols lurk...
Finish
...then reappear with a crunchy oatcake.
Comment
Sweeter and more oaky than I remember.
