- Nose
- As though a sea breeze were gusting across the glass, and promising to blow a gale.
- Palate
- Firm, oily but drying. Bay leaves. Parsley. Emphatic seaweed.
- Finish
- Powerful, peppery, warming.
- Comment
- This one blew up a storm for me.

- Nose
- Initially old style Californian chardonnay, all butter, nut and wood, then the smoke starts and with water becomes pretty firm and severe.
- Palate
- Robust, firm, quite alcoholic, powerful. A nodule of sweetness in the middle.
- Finish
- Dry and austere.
- Comment
- Port Ellen has always struck me as the most Calvinist of Islay's malts.
