- Nose
- Creosote. The phenols prevail. Then cereal notes tone it down. Biscuity. Lemon cheesecake.
- Palate
- Velvety. Very appetising. The sweet malty notes push smoke in the back. A
saltysensation.Syllabub.
- Finish
- Refined,lingering.Licorice and mint.
- Comment
- A superb Port Ellen, more sophisticated than the Diageo one. Two styles. This one is more an indoor dram. Toeach his own.

- Nose
- A big wave of oily smoke,Calmac car ferry leaving port on fish market day.
- Palate
- Wow.a glorious mix of sweetness and smoke, with clean barley and soft fruits wrapped in a ball of smoke.
- Finish
- Long and beautifully balanced. Quite irresistible.
- Comment
- Truth be told, Port Ellens are hit or miss affairs. But this is among the best you will taste. Up there with Talisker 18 as the ultimate peat and sweet all rounder.
