- Nose
- Firm and ozone fresh. Walking by the sea after a gale. Wet pebbles, and very sweet soft fruits. Smoke is there, but in the background.
- Palate
- Lightly oily with a sweet spot that manages to hold its own against wet dulse, a little creosote, crab shells, and (even with water) a wasabi like heat.
- Finish
- Medicinal.
- Comment
- Another evolution in the Port Ellen saga. Less austere but also less overtly
smoky. Fascinating.

- Nose
- Smoky. Briny. A bonfire still steaming off after a summer shower. Bog myrtle. A fruity note. Juicy pears.
- Palate
- Dry and crisp at first. Then a sweet and smoky malty flavour. The alcohol bites. Kippers. Green olives. Water cuts the edges and gives it a thicker feel.
- Finish
- Medium, warm.
- Comment
- That whisky needs a dash of water as the alcohol tends to numb the tastebuds. But too much makes it cardboardy. Interesting but the palate is a bit harsh.
