Nose
Firm and ozone fresh. Walking by the sea after a gale. Wet pebbles, and very sweet soft fruits. Smoke is there, but in the background.
Palate
Lightly oily with a sweet spot that manages to hold its own against wet dulse, a little creosote, crab shells, and (even with water) a wasabi like heat.
Finish
Medicinal.
Comment
Another evolution in the Port Ellen saga. Less austere but also less overtly smoky. Fascinating.

Nose
Smoky. Briny. A bonfire still steaming off after a summer shower. Bog myrtle. A fruity note. Juicy pears.
Palate
Dry and crisp at first. Then a sweet and smoky malty flavour. The alcohol bites. Kippers. Green olives. Water cuts the edges and gives it a thicker feel.
Finish
Medium, warm.
Comment
That whisky needs a dash of water as the alcohol tends to numb the tastebuds. But too much makes it cardboardy. Interesting but the palate is a bit harsh.
