Nose
Sweet. Hard toffee. Palate
Silky. Starts dry, then nutty and luscious. Finish
Lingering brown sugar-and-spice finish, with a balancing savoury touch from the salty Sound of Islay. Comment
Less complex, with the distillery character coming through much more strongly.
Dave Broom
Nose
High sherry notes: almond, nut bowl, spice. A clootie dumpling thrown athwart a peat fire. Palate
Well covered and rich but with great smoky/kippery depth. Finish
Long nutty/fruity then suddenly dies and a medicinal note comes out. Comment
The sherry gives roundness but doesn’t dominate Caol Ila’s characteristic energy.
