- Nose
- A fishing port as the fleet comes in. Fish oil, creosoted ropes, smoke. Everything is concentrated and resinous. A hint of pot pourri before the big phenols return:charred timbers, pipe tobacco.
- Palate
- Very smoky big and intense with rich oily weight behind, then sooty, that resin scent, smokehouse, camphor and seaweed. This length and layering is what sets this apart.
- Finish
- Long,dying embers.
- Comment
- Ah Yoichi..it's Ardbeg in Hokkaido.

- Nose
- Smoky and medicinal. A big whiff of creosote. The lighter aromas shine through. Coconut, vanilla. A grassy note. Freshly cut lawn.
- Palate
- Crisp, clean. Sweetness comes through the veil of smoke. Hint of seaweed. Develops on a pleasant fudgy note (salted butter caramels ?).
- Finish
- Drying but slightly oily. Keeps spicy.
- Comment
- An island character. Clean and well structured. I like the salty feel it leaves
on the lips. Take a walk on the wild side…
