- Nose
- Peppery. Seaweed. The sea. Some iron-like notes.
- Palate
- Very oily. Sweet, but also salty. Long flavour development. Seems a mature, restrained, rounded, expression of Laphroaig; and then…
- Finish
- Sudden explosion of salt and pepper.
- Comment
- I enjoyed this very much, but it does not add a great deal to the canon.

- Nose
- Immediate: smoked haddock, creosote/tar, hessian, peat smoke with lovely sweet fruitiness behind. In time, leather. Great.
- Palate
- Smouldering peat fires, heather, violet. Dry oak balanced by lovely toffee sweetness in the middle of the palate. Complex.
- Finish
- Long, peaty, tarry.
- Comment
- A huge, rich and strangely elegant Laphroaig. Miles better than the official 15 Years Old.
