Gavin Smith
Nose
Sweet and perfumed, plums followed by smoke and cigar boxes.
Palate
Short sweetness, stewed prunes, then dry note of damped-down bonfire.
Finish
Plums and a faint whiff of peat smoke.
Comment
Lots happening here. A complex and highly unusual expression of Port Ellen.

Nose
Concentrated. Fruit compote, baked fruits, tinned raspberry, cooked plum but with phenolics acting as a counterpoint: tobacco leaf, coal.
Palate
A sweet, winey start then it dries allowing the peat to emerge before relaxing and letting raspberry fruitiness to return. Layered, complex.
Finish
Mellow, winey, a hint of fragrant smoke.
Comment
Audacious but it works. Brilliantly.
