All the woods are influential, especially the port in the finish. A very dexterous balancing act, but is the house character eventually overwhelmed?

Triple distilled whiskey drawn from bourbon, sherry and port wood...what a balancing act. It usually works a treat, but this time the elements are strangely out of kilter.

A touch slick and a little one-dimensional.
Bushmills 1982 Bourbon Cask
Single Malt - Ireland - 57.80%

An unusually dry expression of Bushmills. Complex. Austere. Bushmills needs a touch of sherry sweetness.
Bushmills 21 Years Old

A delicious whisky. The sweetness and nuttiness of Bushmills whiskey and of Madeira are an enjoyable double-act. The whiskey has to work hard to avoid being upstaged.

This whiskey has changed quite a bit in the last few years. It's now less subtle, more forthright, but no less delicious.

A rich nose and a somewhat restrained palate with an assertive oak print, which the high strength
amplifies. But an elegant dryness.

That lactic note overwhelms nose and palate. Not sure that a dairy whiskey is something to look forward to! Surprisingly, a dash of water makes more palatable.
Connemara Cask Strength

The paler colour suggests less interesting casks. The higher the alcohol adds to the pepperiness. The end result is drier, more cutting, but less rounded than the 40%.

I just love this un-chill filtered version; it's fat, it's loud and it's fun. In this price bracket, there are very few Scottish single malts that can match it.
