Highland distillery Arbikie has announced its first artist collaboration. Arbikie Highland Rye Artists Limited Edition No 1 is the product of the distillery’s collaboration with artist Francis Boag.

Known for his vibrant use of colour, Boag is of the New Scottish Colourists movement. For the Highland Rye, Boag has created an abstract and bold label. Each bottle of the Artists Limited Edition No 1 will come with a signed art print by Boag.

The Highland Rye Artists Limited Edition No 1 was matured in new American oak and finished in Calvados casks to add fruity notes.

Christian Perez, Arbikie Distillery production manager, shared: “Francis Boag’s approach is to experiment with light and shade, using bold and vibrant colours with broad-brush strokes, this technique connects the foreground with the background revealing the meaning of the art.

“Similarly, our inspiration on Boag’s technique catapulted our imagination and creativity to use Calvados casks to exhibit the aromas of caramelised apples in the foreground connecting with the bold and spicy character of our Highland Rye in the background. A symphony of affinity and contrast.”

Just 1200 bottles of the Artists Limited Edition No 1 have been released, available via arbikie.com and specialist retailers.
