Benromach Distillery, which has a “wisp of smoke” within the signature flavour profile of its core range, has released an unpeated whisky to its Contrasts range.
The range is a platform for Benromach’s whisky makers to explore different elements of the distillery’s spirit. Under the range, Benromach has experimented with cask finishes, including using air-dried versus kiln-dried oak, Bordeaux casks, and new oak. However, the distillery calls the new unpeated release the “ultimate” contrast to its core range.
Keith Cruickshank, distillery manager at Benromach, said: “With our Contrasts range, we aim to develop whiskies that showcase the handmade skills of our distillers — and this is no exception. But this particular unpeated release provides the very definition of a contrast — so we’d love to hear what whisky drinkers think.”
Contrasts: Unpeated has been matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks for nine years. Tasting notes provided by Benromach highlight “sweet and floral aromas” alongside fruit, liquorice, and herbal notes.
Benromach Contrasts: Unpeated (46% ABV) is available now via specialist retailers at RRP £60.
