Brown-Forman has confirmed that plans have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council for work at its Glendronach Distillery.
If approved, the plans will see a multi-million pound investment to redevelop the site ahead of its 200th anniversary in 2026. Glendronach Distillery resides in the grounds of the former Boynsmill Estate in the Valley of Forgue, Aberdeenshire.
The plans include restoring the historic Boynsmill House and walled gardens to become a luxury guest experience, and converting a heritage warehouse into a visitor centre. Brown-Forman also plans to expand the distillery’s car park and guest entrance, and improve the landscape and guest tour paths. Existing buildings and the period courtyard will remain to ensure the site’s history is preserved throughout the developments.
The plans represent a continuation of Brown-Forman’s renovation projects at the Glendronach Distillery. In 2020, the company renovated the visitor centre to add a new tasting room, lounge, and retail space. A £30 million distillery expansion began in 2022 to grow production capabilities.
Jennifer Proctor, head of European homeplaces at Brown-Forman, said: “We’re very proud to be custodians of such a historic and revered single malt at the Glendronach. This significant investment in the long-term future of the distillery will enable us to continue to preserve almost 200 years of rich heritage whilst ensuring we can meet the increasing demand in visitors for the Glendronach at home and around the world.”
Brown-Forman has appointed architecture firm Loader Monteith and interior designer Scanrinish Design for the project.
