Buffalo Trace Distillery has announced that it will donate 2,022 bottles to charitable organisations. These can be auctioned to help the charities raise donations. The distillery will take care of the sending of the bottles, asking only that recipients report back on how much money their bottle raised.

While the distillery already has a database of charities, it aims to grow the potential range of recipients – 501(c) (3) organisations and registered charities are encouraged to register here for a chance to be awarded a bottle to use for fundraising.

Potential recipients must register by 31 March 2022 for consideration; winning charities will be notified of their status by 29 April 2022. Bottles to selected recipients will begin shipping in May 2022, and recipients must hold their fundraising event and report back on monies raised by 30 November 2022.

Included in the offering of 2,022 bottles, alongside 300 bottles from the Single Oak Project, are the world’s first five bourbon non-fungible tokens (NFTs), six-litre bottles containing bourbon distilled in 1982 in Buffalo Trace Distillery’s O.F.C. line. These will be available from mid-February.

“We really want to make an impact in 2022,” said Sara Saunders, Buffalo Trace’s vice president of bourbon. “We’ve got a wonderful database so far of nonprofit organisations, but we encourage others from across the US and the world to register their charitable organisation, as we know the need is great. We’ve handpicked some of the best whiskies from across our portfolio, in hopes they garner top dollar for the recipients.”

Buffalo Trace Distillery has a history of conducting similar fundraisers: in 2019, it gave away nearly 400 bottles from its 6-millionth barrel since Prohibition, which raised over 1 million USD for various charitable organisations. Similar projects ran in 2016 and 2011.
