Bushmills has unveiled to luxury additions to its collection of whiskeys: the 25 Years Old and 30 Years Old single malts.

The expressions, which will become permanent additions to the Northern Ireland distillery's range, are among its oldest and rarest small-batch releases to date. Bushmills said the expressions would help to satisfy growing demand for premium Irish whiskeys, particularly higher-aged single malts.

The 25 Years Old was matured for between four and six years in ex-sherry and e-bourbon casks before spending a further 21 years in ruby port casks. Tasting notes supplied by the distillery say to expect notes of dark fruits, honey, and gently toasted wood.

Meanwhile the 30 Years Old was matured for 14 years in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks before being refilled into Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for 16 years. Bushmills says the whiskey carries signature sherry aromas, with fig, raisin, and praline. Both whiskeys are bottled at 46% ABV and are non-chill filtered.

Bushmills master blender Alex Thomas said: "We are meticulous and uncompromising when it comes to the wood we select in which we gently age our whiskey. We will never cut corners nor compromise on quality, no matter how much effort it takes, and I’m incredibly proud that both single malts – including the rarest small-batch whiskey we’ve ever released in the 30 Years Old – are permanent additions to our exceptional collection."

Colum Egan, Bushmills master distiller, said: "When we started planning these two whiskeys over 30 years ago, we travelled across Europe to hand-select each cask and collaborate with winemakers to specify the fortified wine recipe used to season them. We still engage in every detail of the process – from exceptional finishes to the perfect ageing environment. We’re proud of the generations of experience that go into ensuring every cask is at its freshest and most flavourful for maturing our whiskeys.”

Bushmills 25 Years Old and 30 Years Old single malt Irish whiskeys will be available from 19 April 2023 at select retailers including The Whisky Shop and Selfridges (RRP £790 and £1,990 respectively). Both will be released annually on a limited basis worldwide.
