Sure, it's simple, it's classic, it's been done. But the Old Fashioned is a hallmark of bar menus around the world for a reason: it never really goes out of style.
A perfect way to celebrate the flavour of your whisky while still enjoying it as a cocktail, this timeless serve comes to you today from Diageo's Bulleit Bourbon, as part of our Bourbon Heritage Month coverage. Mix it up with Bulleit, swap in your favourite bourbon, or try it with something new.
The Old Fashioned is also the perfect canvas to try out your personalised twist — try swapping out one or more of the elements for your own take on it (in autumn, the simple syrup often gets swapped out for maple syrup in my house).
Ingredients:
1.25 oz Bulleit Bourbon
2 bar spoons simple syrup
3 dashes aromatic bitters
1 orange peel
Method:
Add two bar spoons of simple syrup, three dashes of bitters and Bulleit Bourbon to a large rocks glass. Add ice. Stir gently until the level of the ice and liquid equalise. Express an orange peel over the glass then add the peel to the drink as a garnish.
