Cocktail historians generally agree the Old Fashioned cocktail’s name was first used at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky. According to Kentucky-based distillery Woodford Reserve, Colonel James E. Pepper, who was born on what is now the distillery site, popularised the Old Fashioned by introducing it to society at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
In celebration of their annual ‘Old Fashioned Week’, which this year falls on 5 to 14 November, Woodford Reserve have shared a simple but classic recipe for one of the world’s most popular cocktails with us.
Ingredients
50ml Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select
10ml sugar syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Instructions
Add ice to a mixing glass and a Rocks glass, and add ingredients to the mixing glass. Stir ingredients for 30-40 secs.
Strain into the Rocks glass. Garnish with a lightly expressed orange peel.
