Whisky bottler Douglas Laing & Co has revealed a limited edition release under its brand the Epicurean. The bottling is blended from Lowland Scotch whiskies and finished in Calvados casks sourced from Normandy, France.
The brand says the Calvados influence provides an orchard fruit nuance to the blended Scotch whisky, with flavours of apples, pears, and toffee.
Brand manager Scott Morrison said: “Our belief is that flavour is created throughout the whisky-making process, but it’s during the interaction between spirit and wood in maturation where it truly flourishes. This special bottling is a testament to that belief, with the Calvados casks imparting rich, nuanced flavours that elevate our Lowland malt to new heights.”
Douglas Laing has several limited edition releases under the Epicurean’s belt, including 2023’s Cuvée oak release and its Wood Series.
Calvados casks have been a popular finishing choice for Scotch brands of various styles in 2024 — other releases include a 12-year-old Glenmorangie single malt from its Barrel Select series and Arbikie's rye whisky finished in Calvados casks, released in collaboration with artist Francis Boag.
The Epicurean Calvados Limited Edition is bottled at 48% ABV and is available in select markets around the world at RRP £65.
