Douglas Laing & Co has promised to play its part in helping the spirits industry through the tumultuous period that lies ahead, and is donating money from sales of The Epicurean Lowland Malt. For every litre of the whisky sold globally, £1 will go to the Benevolent Society of the Licensed Trade of Scotland.

The charity – also known as The BEN – works across Scotland to support those who have worked in the licensed trade for a minimum of three years, and offers practical, financial and emotional support for those facing hardship. Thousands more in the trade are expected to benefit from The BEN’s work, thanks to the support of Douglas Laing.

The main challenges facing bartenders and other industry workers at the moment is the immediate threat of reduced hours, which obviously poses financial problems for those affected. Fortunately, Douglas Laing has another initiative up its sleeve, and is recruiting mixologists for a new project.

This venture, named ‘The Epicurean’s Cocktail Quarantine’, follows in the footsteps of other spirits brands taking their business to social media platforms, and will see these bartenders mixing up innovative new ways to enjoy the award-winning Epicurean. You can see their work in action on the company’s Facebook or Instagram.

So, sit back and enjoy a dram of Douglas Laing’s distinctive The Epicurean knowing that you’ve directly supported the sustainability of the industry – and if you’re feeling bold, maybe have a go at some of their ‘Cocktail Quarantine’ recipes for yourself.
