Singapore Changi airport is currently hosting an extraordinary collection of over 80 fine wines and spirits, including many rare and highly collectable Scotch whiskies. This unashamedly upmarket selection forms DFS Group's fourth annual Masters of Wines and Spirits collection, which was first unveiled at a lavish party in downtown Singapore in November last year.

Among the many whiskies in the collection are several exclusives to DFS including The Dalmore 45 Years Old, a 41% ABV expression first laid into casks in 1968 and limited to only 30 bottles. Presented in a Glencairn Crystal decanter decorated with the whisky's silver stag emblem, the whisky itself offers up grilled pineapple, treacle and dark chocolate notes on the nose while the palate delivers a mix of nuts, espresso coffee and dates.

Collectors of The Macallan will also be drawn to the fourth edition of the now famous The Masters of Photography Series and the last full set of this iteration in the series available for sale. This sumptuous package features a unique book of acclaimed photographer Elliott Erwitt's quirky photos of Scottish life which cleverly contains a 35cl bottle of single-cask The Macallan whisky within its pages. A separate signed print of one of Erwitt's photos is also included.

The new Johnnie Walker Epic Dates Collection comprises three whiskies celebrating milestones in the whisky's long and eventful history. The 1938 Edition marks the whisky's first advertising campaign and is described as a 'sweet, creamy and soft' 38 Years Old blend with scents of apples, pears and gentle peat smoke.

The Commemorative 1949 Edition celebrates the 65 years Johnnie Walker has been available in Korea and features a number of pre-1930s single malt whiskies within the blend. The last whisky in the trio is The 1956 Edition, which marks the year when Johnnie Walker became the world's highest-selling Scotch whisky. It features a blend of very old and much younger whiskies.

Other notable whiskies in the collection include Aberfeldy 28 Years Old, a 1985 vintage cask of which only eight bottles were released, the exceptionally rare Bowmore 54 Years Old 1957, billed as the oldest Islay whisky ever released; the incredibly dark-coloured Glenfarclas 60 Years Old, matured in first-fill sherry casks, and Lagavulin 37 Years Old, the oldest expression ever launched by the distillery.

The showcasing of the Masters of Wines and Spirits Collection at Singapore Changi airport coincides with a handy new online pre-order and collection service which DFS Group has launched recently at www.dfs.com/en/airport-singapore.

BEST BUY
Laphroaig

11 Years Old

Islay's most popular single malt has a good track record of producing exclusive expressions for travellers. This latest release, Laphroaig 11 Years Old, is exclusively stocked at Amsterdam Schiphol's Exquisite fine wine and spirits store in Terminal 3.

Laphroaig 11 Years Old has been triple matured, first in ex-bourbon barrels, then in quarter casks, and finally in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. This complicated maturation process has created a complex, multi-layered whisky with an earthy peatiness and toffee notes. Laphroaig 11 Years Old comes in a 70cl bottle and is priced at €170 (£134). Quantities are limited.

RECOMMENDED
Ballantine's

40 Years Old

This year's release of Ballantine's 40 Years Old is limited to just 100 bottles. 32 of those bottles, suitably packaged in a handsome, sliding wooden presentation cabinet, have been released into Asian duty-free stores. Among the hub airports in Asia stocking this new whisky are Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon and Hong Kong International.

The nose of this latest Ballantine's 40 Years Old is bursting with ripe pears in syrup mingled with rich fruitcake. The palate offers toffee and apple flavours, and the finish is very long.
