Leith-based whisky company has released its first range of independent bottlings, named the Experimental Series. The brand says the series aims to "redefine tradition" and promote innovation.

The debut releases are three single-cask Highland whiskies, released in "micro-batches": 52 bottles of Croftengea Loch Lomond 7 Years Old (58.8% ABV, RRP £59.40), 84 bottles of a Fettercairn 13 Years Old (RRP £74.50), and 60 bottles of an Ardmore 8 Years Old (RRP £64.50).

For the Croftengea Loch Lomond, also named 'Experiment 1: Axis', heavily peated single malt whisky was matured in a first-fill oloroso Montilla American oak cask. The Fettercairn — 'Experiment 2: Buck' — was originally matured in inactive wood before a finish in a first-fill Ribera del Duero Spanish red wine cask. Rounding out the release collection, 'Experiment 3: Claw', the Ardmore, was first matured in ex-bourbon casks before a finish in first-fill ex-Cognac European oak cask.

Founded by Tom Costello, Adam Harding, and Carl Johnstone, Tailored Spirits Co specialises in privately owned casks. The company won entrepreneurial competition Scottish Edge, through which it received £100,000 funding.

Harding said: “We are beyond delighted to release our first-ever whisky range. This release is all about redefining tradition, honouring heritage but championing curiosity, exploration and innovation. Since launching Tailored Spirits Co in 2023, we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from the whisky industry. It is such a warm & welcoming environment and we are so excited to release our first spirits into the whisky world.”

The design of the series' 50cl bottles inspired by travel luggage labels, with a nod to science labs in the bottle shape, to reflect the whiskies' "experimental" nature. A collectable tab comes with each release, with the brand offering "exclusive access" to a future release for those who collect six.

Costello added: “We love making whiskies look as attractive and eye-catching as possible. The Experimental Series was a dream to design. It showcases the beauty of experimentation, something that’s not bound by tradition, a true exploration of flavour and design. For me the fact they can never be replicated made our first release really special.”
